Norwich to Tilbury : The Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project by the National Grid
Since 2003 the National Grid has published and consulted on its proposals to bring power from the North Sea Wind Farms from Norwich to Tilbury (180km) almost all by building 50m high pylons across the East Anglian countryside.
The County and District Councils in Suffolk have consistently opposed the scheme as has Cotton Parish Council and many others along the affected route. Cotton will have 15 of these pylons running across good agricultural land running north/south on the east side of the Village.
The Planning Application from the National Grid is now with the Planning Inspectorate (P.I.) for a 6-month Examination. The Parish Council, several seriously affected local residents and Cllr Andrew Stringer on behalf of Mid-Suffolk District Council gave oral evidence at the P.I. hearings in February 2026. Their submissions are available attached.
