St Andrew’s Gift Day

Due to the national lock down, we have had a cancel our scheduled Gift Day on Saturday 7th November. We don’t, of course know when we can arrange another date.

Expenses to keep the church going, albeit without any live services, still have to be met. Therefore, if anyone feels like contributing , donations can always be left in Carole’s letter box at 2, Stonham Road or paid directly into our bank account (Cotton PCC) sort code: 20-82-75 account number: 80289868. Services will continue to be streamed on line for the next month at least, starting with the service of Remembrance this Sunday.

The church will continue to be opened every day, except Mondays, for private prayer. We hope to have some Christmas celebrations, but the format is out of our control. Watch this space ………………………………and keep safe.

Virtual Flower and Vegetable show 2020

First of all, thank you so much for those who entered. There were some beautifully composed photographs and great produce and flowers. The Welham family are particularly to be congratulated for producing such a breadth of entries.

Very tall sunflower from the Welhams, lovely apples and plums. Great picture, Zoe. Well done managing to grow an avocado plant from a stone. ( I tried but failed)

In my opinion, the best photo was Beryl’s 3 cobs of sweetcorn and 3 of squash. Good looking produce and beautifully presented.

We don’t know when we will be able to start the Village Produce Association meetings again, but hopefully 2021 will bring more freedom for organisations to meet, and hold events.

Dobies seed catalogues will be arriving soon, and I will deliver to all members who ordered seeds last year. There will be plenty of copies, so let me know if you would like one.

Sad News

It is sad to report the death of another long term residents of Cotton.

Ernie Smith has died aged 95 years, he lived in Cotton with his wife and family for many decades. Ernie had several jobs during his life time but most of his working life was on the railways. However, his early career and lifelong interest was in working horses especially the Suffolk Punch in which he was an expert. If you ever asked him what he did for a living he would say ‘horseman’. Ernie was predeceased by his wife and son.

Another good man gone.
